To Kill a Mockingbird is one of the first books I was made to read in school that I was really glad to have read. I don't think I would ever have read it otherwise, but at the very end of 8th grade we had to read it, and the school year ended before we finished it but I kept reading anyway. It is an incredible book, and it is very much on the banned books list.
I think I was a little too young to read it--I remember not quite understanding the metaphor of the title until it was explained to me--but I wasn't too young to enjoy the book and appreciate its merits. It was also one of the first classics I read. Maybe some day I'll reread it.
